Egypt Green Hydrogen: Leadership at Egypt-France Business Forum | Oil Gas Energy Magazine

Egypt Champions Egypt Green Hydrogen Investment

At the recent Egypt-France Business Forum, the spotlight was on green hydrogen and renewable energy as key areas of cooperation and investment between the two nations. Waleid Gamal El-Dein, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), took part in a high-profile panel titled “Green Hydrogen and Renewables in Egypt: Investment Prospects for French Companies.” He was joined by Khaled Abu Bakr, Chairman of TAQA Arabia, along with other senior executives and renewable energy experts from Egypt and abroad.

During the session, Gamal El-Dein reiterated Egypt’s unwavering commitment to expanding its green energy footprint. He highlighted the strategic importance of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, positioning it as a core element in Egypt’s national ambition to become a major regional exporter of green fuels. He emphasized that Egypt aims to leverage both maritime shipping lanes and land-based pipeline infrastructure to supply green hydrogen and related fuels to European markets.

Suez Canal Zone at the Center of the Green Push

The Suez Canal Economic Zone has emerged as a cornerstone in Egypt green hydrogen energy strategy. Its geographic advantage—connecting East and West through one of the world’s busiest trade routes—offers a significant opportunity for green fuel export. Gamal El-Dein highlighted how government support and policy alignment have created an attractive environment for investors and global energy firms looking to enter the green hydrogen space.

French and international stakeholders attending the session were encouraged to explore investment opportunities in Egypt’s growing renewable sector. Discussions emphasized the critical role of foreign partnerships in driving innovation, financing large-scale infrastructure, and helping Egypt achieve its energy transformation goals. The session created a strong platform for dialogue between Egyptian authorities and potential French investors, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

Efficiency and Innovation at the Forefront

Sébastien Riez, Cluster President for North East Africa and the Levant at Schneider Electric, added a technical and operational perspective to the discussion. He underlined that, for Egypt green hydrogen projects to succeed, efficiency must be maximized across four core stages: design, construction, operation, and maintenance. According to Riez, integrating cutting-edge technologies and smart systems into these stages will be essential to ensuring long-term viability and competitiveness in the global green energy market.

Riez’s comments reflected a growing consensus that while government support and geographical advantage are crucial, Technological innovation and operational excellence will ultimately determine Egypt success in the green hydrogen arena. The dialogue concluded with a shared vision: that Egypt, with its unique location and political will, is poised to become a key player in the global transition to renewable energy—with green hydrogen at the heart of that future.

The session served as a testament to Egypt’s proactive steps toward fostering international cooperation in the energy sector and its ambitions to lead the green transition in the region.
