The announcement came during the 18th session of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission, held on Wednesday in Moscow. Senior officials from both nations, including Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Commerce, Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, and Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister, Roman Mashavin, emphasized their commitment to advancing bilateral energy cooperation.
The meeting focused on strengthening ties across various domains of the energy sector. Mousavi also held a separate session with Alexey Kulapin, Director-General of the Russian Energy Agency, to discuss coordination for the commission meetings and finalize the draft agreements. Over two days of intensive discussions, specialized expert committees from both countries worked on drafting multiple cooperation agreements. These documents are expected to be formally signed during the final session of the joint commission on Friday, at Moscow’s President Hotel. The signing ceremony will be co-chaired by Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov.
The upcoming agreements will serve to cement a range of strategic priorities, including upstream oil and gas development, gas trade, and further integration in the petrochemical industry. Notably, the two nations are also working on expediting the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and Russia energy cooperation giant Gazprom.
