San Elizario Welcomes Major Solar Expansion

Despite challenging weather conditions, El Paso Electric (EPE) marked a significant milestone on Tuesday by inaugurating its latest solar facility in San Elizario. The $18 million project expands EPE’s Texas Community Solar Program, enhancing renewable energy access for thousands of customers. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the site, located at 1201 Herring Road, to celebrate the completion of the new 10-megawatt facility.

Spanning 70 acres of repurposed farmland, the solar site is expected to provide cost-effective clean energy to approximately 5,000 customers. EPE emphasized that this expansion will not only increase the availability of solar power but also contribute to lower electricity rates across its service area. The project was developed in collaboration with EDF Renewables, a leading company in sustainable energy solutions.

Innovative Technology and Community Impact

The newly constructed solar facility is equipped with 18,930 high-efficiency solar panels, capable of generating substantial power for homes and businesses. The deployment of advanced solar technology on previously unused farmland underscores EPE’s commitment to sustainability and maximizing land use for renewable energy production.

The project significantly boosts EPE’s solar capacity, tripling the scale of its community solar program. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader goal of providing affordable and environmentally friendly energy solutions to the region. By integrating more solar power into its grid, EPE aims to enhance energy reliability and support regional efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

A Commitment to Partnership and Growth

EPE officials highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative, recognizing San Elizario as a valuable partner in advancing renewable energy projects. “Everything we do at El Paso Electric is a partnership with the community,” stated the company’s Vice President of Business Development. He further emphasized that the investment reflects EPE’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth and meeting the evolving energy needs of its customers.

The successful completion of this solar project signals EPE’s ongoing efforts to expand clean energy access and infrastructure. With renewable energy gaining traction nationwide, EPE’s latest venture represents a step forward in the transition to a more sustainable and resilient power grid. The company remains committed to furthering renewable energy initiatives that benefit both the environment and the local community.
